About My First 100 Words

A hundred everyday words, each one shown as a picture and said out loud. The child hears the word, finds the picture that goes with it, and moves on. Nothing has to be read, which is the point: it works before reading does.

The several languages on offer make it useful past a first pass. The same hundred words in a second language turn a finished game back into a new one, and the pronunciation is spoken rather than spelled out. Sound is not optional here, so turn it on before handing the tablet over.

How to play

  1. Listen to the word the game says.
  2. Tap the picture that matches it.
  3. Keep going as the set of words grows.

Tips

  • Turn the sound on first. The spoken word is the part doing the teaching, and the pictures alone teach nothing.
  • Stay in one language for a while. Switching every round trains picture spotting rather than vocabulary.
